Playing Aranthaen Sub-Classes
Aranthaes is a city shaped by power – by trade and coin, by belief and law, and by the institutions that bind them together.
Here, authority is present and organised. Faith operates through churches and orders, influence through guilds and offices, and wealth through networks that reach far beyond the city walls. Those who draw power from these structures do so with the understanding that influence in Aranthaes always carries consequence.
The subclasses presented here are unique to Aranthaes and are designed to integrate directly into campaigns set in or influenced by the city. Each reflects a distinct relationship with the forces that govern life within it, whether divine, political, or mercantile.
These subclasses are offered as free PDFs for players and Dungeon Masters alike.
Theological Sub-Classes of Aranthaes
The following sub-classes represent the primary expressions of divine power within Aranthaes.
Though each draws upon the same source, they embody profoundly different philosophies, obligations, and costs.
Together, they form the spiritual backbone of the city – belief made manifest through action.
Cleric: Defenders of the Mother
Clerics of the Defenders serve as caretakers, enforcers, and representatives of the Church of the Mother.
Their power is rooted in charity, order, and the careful maintenance of balance within Aranthaen society. Whether distributing the Mother’s bounty or safeguarding her temples, these clerics embody faith as a public good.

Warlock: The Mother’s Shadow
Warlocks of the Mother’s Shadow carry the fractured remnants of ancient divine power.
Bound not by doctrine but by resonance, they embody the tension between light and darkness that lies at the heart of the Mother herself. Their magic is intimate, volatile, and deeply personal – a reflection of faith shaped by inner conflict.

Paladin: Order of the Golden Scales
Paladins of the Golden Scales are not champions of righteousness, but instruments of final judgment.
Recognised rather than ordained, they act only when balance has already been weighed. Their power is absolute, rare, and costly – and once invoked, cannot be undone.

Trade and Political Sub-Classes
Aranthaes is not governed by faith alone – but shaped by agreements whispered behind doors, by confidence sold at scale, and by influence that moves faster than law or faith can follow.
The following subclasses represent those who operate within – and often beyond – the city’s formal mercantile structures of power.
These are not adventuring heroes in the traditional sense. They are facilitators, manipulators, negotiators, and architects of consequence – individuals whose talents thrive where ambition, secrecy, and wealth meet.
Bard: Swallows & Ravens
Swallows and Ravens are agents of subtle access.
Trained to move effortlessly through circles of influence, they gather secrets not through force or magic alone, but through timing, intimacy, and trust carefully cultivated. While seduction and deception may form part of their arsenal, their true strength lies in observation, patience, and the precise application of charisma at the right moment.

Bard: Dealmaker
Dealmakers are skilled masters of closure.
Where negotiations stall, tensions rise, or agreements threaten to collapse, they step in to apply pressure, reassurance, and momentum. Using bardic insight and social precision, they guide negotiations to conclusion – often securing terms others could not.

Rogue: Swindler
Swindlers operate at scale, selling futures, manufacturing belief, and extracting coin long before consequences arrive.
Masters of timing, perception, and exit, Swindlers thrive where ambition and greed outpaces scrutiny and systems are slow to react. Their schemes can enrich hundreds – briefly – before collapsing into unrest, ruin, and blame…
